If you or your company are interested in sponsoring our event please email Keri at Keri.Martin@AWAM16.com to discuss sponsorship options from a donation of activity supplies, funds to purchase supplies, hosting an activity, speaking to the girls, sponsoring breakfast, snacks or lunch, providing raffle prizes, or other suggestions or ideas you may have.
Scheduled Activities
Currently the plan is 6 - 30 minute sessions 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, (unless noted otherwise), and parents that pre-register their girls will be emailed a link approximately one month prior to reserve their activity time slots.
Flight Simulator
Hodge Flight Services - https://www.hodgeflightservices.com/
DeWitt and Joanne Hodge and their team will have a flight simulator available for the girls to experience and are donating an Introduction to Aviation Course which includes 4 hours of training with Certified Flight Instructor for the essay contest winner.
Dope & Fabric Aircraft Repair Activity Table
Stuffed Airplanes that the girls will follow FAA guidelines to repair a tear (open seam) with a baseball stitch.
Sheetmetal Skills
Girls will learn about working with sheet metal safely.
The activity will include deburring drilled holes, filing edges, shaping corners, using clecos to hold two pieces of metal together and attaching them using blind (pop) rivets.
Drones
Learn about Drones
Charting a Flight Path
Girls will learn how to read and use the same maps that pilots use to chart a flight path.
Speaker Sessions
6 - 30 minute sessions 10 AM to 1 PM
We are hoping for the EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship Winner to speak, an Astronomy Speaker, We hope the Air Force Pilots will return, Do you know anyone that would like to speak?

Drop In Activities:
Pilots and Static Aircraft Tours
Girls and their families will be escorted on the ramp to speak with pilots about their aircraft, ask about flying and possibly have the opportunity to sit in the pilot seat!!
Photobooth
Have fun trying on different props and taking photos in front of a back drop.
Soaring Succulents
Learn about succulents and plant one.
Jewelry Making
Airplane Beads and more!! Create colorful necklaces and frienship bracelets!

Friday 9/27/2024 - 3-9 PM GIAD Preparation Day
(last year we were there until 6:30/7PM)
DAY OF:
Saturday 9/28/2024 - 7 AM to 4 PM - Girls in Aviation Day!
7 AM Set up crew arrives and starts erecting pop up tents, placing the outside tables and chairs, placing outside signage
7:30 AM Registration Volunteers arrive - organize your table and the name tag tables... make sure to know location of safety briefing area to direct families to after the girls create their name tags.
8/8:15 -11 AM Registration table is open
8:30-11:20 AM Safety Briefings - Activity Kits (Swag Bags) are handed out at the end of each Safety Briefing so we know which girls are eligible for the sheet metal skills activity and walking the ramp and seeing the aircraft.
8:45 AM - 2 PM Marshalling Team & Escort Teams are needed on the ramp - Coast Guard should be arriving by 9 AM and other aircraft should be too. Girls are allowed to start touring the aircraft as soon as their pilots are ready for them. Coast Guard has been requested until 2 PM so we may need escorts until 2 PM - depending on the girls and their families.
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM Activity Tables are Active Jewelry Making, Soaring Potting and Photobooth are all planned to be open to anyone at any time Flight Simulator (Hodge Flight Services) will be scheduled Charts (WAI SF Bay Area), Aircraft Repair (stuffed airplanes with baseball stitch) & Sheetmetal Repair (tiny sheet metal aircraft - round corners, debur holes, clecos, pop rivet two pieces together) (AWAM) are planned for 30 minute sessions

10 AM to 1 PM - Hoping to have 6 speakers - if you are interested in participating in a panel to discuss your career in Aviation, please let Keri know. That will be the 12:30 Speaker Session.
1 PM Raffle - We will need help setting up the raffle prizes and running the raffle on the day of the event. We will have many of the prizes the day before and we can set up a table during Prep time to help make Girls in Aviation Day less hectic.
2 PM Girls adjourned.
2-4 PM Clean up and pack up.
