The first girls in aviation day east bay!

Thank you to our amazing sponsors and volunteers!! 

This day would not have been possible without all of you being so generous with your time and support.

Thanks to you we were able to host 56 girls, their parents/Girl Scout Leaders and over 25 volunteers.

It started with an amazing breakfast from Central San - coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, bananas, apples, oranges and more! What a spread! While Beth and Evelyn checked in all of the girls!

Plus 24 pizzas, 9 salads, and more drinks for lunch thanks to United Airlines!

And don't forget the delicious fruit that was the first thing to vanish - Thank you Monina!

With a special treat of Aircraft Cookies from Rosann, Mary and Lynn!

The girls participated in 6 hands on activities:

• Aviation Communication - Phonetic Alphabet, communication breakdown and talking to the airport tower! Bay Cities 99s Amber and Brie you did an amazing job and the girls were thrilled!
• Physics of Flying - reading charts and finding out about flight suits (trying them on and taking pictures!) Thanks to Ana, Dorina, Ghoncheh, Tia, Sky, and Yang from WAI - SF Bay Area Chapter for teaching our girls about charts! Captain Mama your photo booth was a smashing success! Thank you for being so generous with your expertise, flight suits and time.
• Flight & Drone Simulators - Many Thanks to DeWitt Hodge owner of Hodge Flight Services for our most liked activity of the day! The girls loved flying! This day would not have happened without everything you did! Thank you!
• Moon Habitat - learning about women in space and the conditions of being on the moon. Taking a look at what a habitat consists of with an airlock, lab and emergency exit.  Another big thanks to DeWitt, Joanne, and the rest of his team for providing an amazing structure and activity! Thank you to United Volunteers Cathy and Ana Maria for joining Joanne on the Moon!
• Aircraft Repair - learning how to perform a baseball stitch repair on a stuffed airplane by following instructions from FAA Advisory Circular 43.13-1B. Thank you to Keri, Gabrielle, Rosann, and the rest of the team for making all of those stuffed airplanes! Thank you to YES! Aviation for their generous donation of fabric and stuffing! Thank you to all of the United Volunteers (Rosann, Mary, Elena, Armani, Raimundo, Lynn, Salah, and more) that stepped up to help the girls!
• Aircraft Assembly and Inspection - Thank you to Kim Pritchard from Zipline for brining a drone to show the girls how fascinating aviation can be! Thank you to Joe for being with her the entire time!
• A Super Huge Thank you to all of the United Airlines Volunteers because Good really does Lead the Way!

The girls also had an amazing time exploring 3 planes and a Coast Guard Search and Rescue Helicopter. Thank you  DeWitt, Janica, Denese, and Coast Guard CDR Kelly Higgins and her crew for allowing the girls to explore your aircraft! It was the highlight of their day!
